Welcome on the Sera Jey Monastery Tour of Compassion and Harmony
The Sera Jey monks will be making the Harmony and Compassion Tour over the course of a year. The aim is to sow the seeds of harmony and compassion. The monks perform traditional monastic dances, traditional rituals and create Sand Mandalas. The purpose of the tour, in addition to the above is also to raise funds for additional classrooms at Sera Jey Monastery. At the moment many of the classes have to hold their debates outdoors, because of the large student population.
See the Sand Mandala
The Sand Mandalas are drawn with coloured sand. There are several different mandalas possible. Each Mandala symbolically represents the palace of the enlightened activities of a specific Buddha and his entourage.
The dances of the monks
The Cham dances are from the earliest time of Buddhism. The great Masters used them to pass on their vision of deities to their students. Today, when the monks of Sera Monastery perform these sacred dances, they aim to subdue negative forces such as violence, disease, disintegration, mistrust and communal hatred that linger in the collective experience of their audiences.
